FamilyForward has been awarded a very generous grant and ongoing legacy support from the Congregational United Church of Christ of Arlington Heights. After deciding to close its church and sell its property to Northwest Community Hospital, Congregational UCC formed a Transition Team. The purpose of the team was to consider how the church would continue to fulfill its commitment to justice and community support as it transitioned to a legacy ministry.
Upon finalizing the transaction, all proceeds were to be distributed to nonprofit ministries that shared Congregational UCC’s vision of a more just world for all people. A distribution plan was presented to the congregation and unanimously approved, naming a group of agencies that would receive a one-time grant. Additionally, the plan named agencies that will receive ongoing annual distributions for a period of 20 years, to be used “wisely, prudently, and in alignment with our shared commitment to your mission and ministry,” according to the announcement letter received by FamilyForward.
On October 4, Linda Janus, representing the Transition Team, and her sister, Laura Janus, presented FamilyForward with a check for $60,000. FamilyForward was one of only three organizations receiving a grant award of that size. Additionally, beginning in April 2026, FamilyForward will receive an annual distribution of 14.9% of the Ministry Legacy Account for 20 years, estimated to be $17,800 per year.
We at FamilyForward are blessed and honored to have been chosen as a recipient of both a sizeable grant and ongoing legacy payments. As we are in the process of refining our strategic plan, the news could not have come at a better time. The funding provided will help us to grow our program and serve more working families in dire need of assistance and guidance. We are deeply grateful for this financial commitment and pledge to use the funds prudently as we serve the community.
